The Indianapolis Motor Speedway

This auto racing track is part of the IndyCar Series. It was named as a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
Originally, the track was paved with crushed rock. Later, it was repaved with brick. After World War II, parts of the track were resurfaced with asphalt.
The track is also home to several other time-honored American racing events. For example, the Coca-Cola 600, the Pennzoil 150, and the NASCAR Verizon 200 are held there.
The Indianapolis 500, on the other hand, is the most prestigious of all the IndyCar races. This event consists of over 200 laps, and pays over $2 million to the winner. Typically, it features a 33-car starting field. Most of the cars in this race are full-time IndyCar entries. However, "Indy-only" entries, sometimes called "One-offs," may be entered in the race.
The covered bridge capital of the world
If you're interested in exploring the history of covered bridges, you'll love visiting Parke County, Indiana. This eastern county claims to have the largest number of covered bridges in the state. In fact, there are 31 of these bridges still in existence.
You'll also want to check out the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival, held each year in October. It features free entertainment, food, and shopping. There are also guided tours of the covered bridges in the area. The festival usually kicks off the second Friday in October for ten days.
Parke County has a unique set of covered bridges that are located in nine communities. One of these is the Medora Bridge, which is the longest in the state. Another is the Jackson Bridge, which uses two Burr arches.
