Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was the second Indiana Jones movie to be released, but it actually ranks first in the timeline. Set in 1935, the film opens in Shanghai with Ford's rugged adventurer escaping from Chinese gangsters after an exchange of treasures that went wrong. The shooting of Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in the “Peruvian” jungle was filmed on the island of Kauai, one of the islands of Hawaii, to which the director would return for Jurassic Park. Harrison Ford even appears in one episode (Young Indiana Jones and the Mystery of the Blues) as Indiana Jones.
If you're familiar with the Indiana Jones movies, you may have noticed that the sequence of time-traveling events doesn't make much sense. You might think that this television series based on the adventures of a young Indiana Jones would come first chronologically, but the series actually takes place in the 90s, with an old man from Indiana (George Hall) who begins each episode recalling an adventure from his youth. Martin Caidin wrote the next two novels in the Bantam series, Indiana Jones and the Sky Pirates and Indiana Jones and the White Witch. Writers and directors of the series included Carrie Fisher, Frank Darabont, Vic Armstrong, Ben Burtt, Terry Jones, Nicolas Roeg, Mike Newell and Joe Johnston. With the help of her former lover and tough bar owner Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) and her digger friend Sallah (John Rhys-Davies), Indiana manages to recover the Ark in Egypt.
To watch the Indiana Jones movies in chronological order, you'll have to skip a bit, but it's worth watching all the exciting adventures that unfold in real time. The gothic exterior of “Marshall College”, where Indy teaches, is the 1927 Conservatory of Music building at the University of the Pacific, 3601 Pacific Circle, Stockton, California, which can be seen again in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Indiana and his friend Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott) are assigned by American businessman Walter Donovan (Julian Glover) to search for the Holy Grail.
